Rumor Central Updates with the Draft 1 hour away

April 25, 2013

The Browns want to move up for a pass rusher (Ziggy Ansah? The Lions appear set to take a pass rusher at #5 if the top 3 OTs are gone as expected).

The Chargers, Cardinals, and Dolphins all are interested in moving up to take one of the Top 3 OTs.

The Raiders are playing it cool but want to trade back, at least a little ways but still high enough to land a top player.

The Cowboys want to trade back in the draft.

The Bills are taking a QB in the 1st round but will trade into the latter portion of it and won’t spend the #8 pick on one.

The Titans added Shonn Greene as their backup running back, paid a surprising contract to Delanie Walker a tight end that is a great blocker, and handsomely paid the best guard in free agency (Andy Levitre). It all adds up to them wanting to be a smash mouth team and drafting one of the top 2 guards at #10 completes that offseason goal.

The Falcons are interested in moving up in the draft for a specific player. Later reports say they aren’t willing to give up their 2014 1st rounder nor their 2013 2nd rounder so obviously one of the reports is incorrect. Thomas Dimitroff has a history of making bold moves so I’d say the latter report is the incorrect one. This seems like an all in type system in 2013 so I could see the 2014 1st rounder gone by the end of Thursday night.

The Steelers are hoping one of the top 3-4 OLB (Dion Jordan, Barkevious Mingo, Jarvis Jones) is available at #17. Lamar Woodley is coming off a down season and they cut James Harrison. They might uncharacteristically move up for one of them as it’s clearly their biggest need.

The Giants have for years taken a pass rusher when it didn’t seem to be a need for them. If a stud falls to #19 don’t be surprised if they do it again.

The Browns want to give Brandon Weeden one more full season before deciding on his future. They also don’t want to be caught flat footed if he’s terrible in 2013. That all combines to make me think they won’t take a QB in the 1st or 2nd round but will in the 3rd or 4th round. Think Tyler Bray, Tyler Wilson, Mike Glennon, and that level of QB prospect. It will allow them to put a QB in their system that was chosen by them but also allows them to continue on with Weeden, if he plays well in 2013, without too much loss of value.

The Bills might be using Ryan Nassib as a smokescreen for the QB they really like: Matt Barkley.

Many executives believe that if Barkley or Nassib is available with the 1st pick in the 2nd round the Jaguars will pounce, pun intended.

Joseph Randle is reported to be the player the Cowboys are targeting at RB.

The Eagles are doing a masterful job concealing who they want. I’ve read rumors with them interested in Lane Johnson, Dion Jordan, Geno Smith, and EJ Manuel. Maybe they really are interested in all of those players or maybe they surprise everyone by taking Dee Milliner at #4 and all of this will be looked back on as a clever smokescreen.
